SunVolt Electric and Collaborative Solar

The Partnership Explained

SunVolt and Collaborative Solar have a long running relationship dating back almost a decade. If it seems confusing you’re not alone. The goal of this page is to bring some clarity to the partnership.

They began as two separate companies. SunVolt was an electrical contractor that did solar, and Collaborative worked to bring solar to local businesses and non-profits. Over the years, a more formal partnership formed into what it is today. Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Collaborative Solar does many of the solar site assessments, initial client interaction, and technical sales with clients to inform them of their best financing options (tax credits self-consumption, etc.). In giving potential customers honest feedback on whether or not solar makes sense for them, they have been known to talk potential customers out of solar if it’s not in their best interest.

  2. Collaborative Solar also plays the role of general contractor for jobs that require it (over a certain size or dollar amount).

  3. After the job is secured, SunVolt comes in to do the design work, material acquisition, pull permits with our electrical licenses, and install the systems.
